  WHY NOT AKC SHOWS?

One of our main goals here at Okefeild Acres is to breed dogs not only with excellent temperament, but also with beautiful conformation.  Since the American Kennel Club does not recognize Blue Weimaraners or Parti Colored Poodles in the show ring, we sought out a club that did not penalize just because of color preference.  America's Pet Registry allows dogs of different breeds to show, regardless of color, unless a genetic health problem is connected with a particular color within a particular breed.  After researching both the Blue Weimaraner and Parti Poodle, APRI has concluded that they are excluded from AKC because of color preference alone,  no health problems are connected with the Blue Weimaraner or Parti Poodle coloring.  Our sire "Okefeild Acre's Once In A Blue Moon" is the first Blue Weimaraner that has been given permission to show at APRI sponsored shows, and won his champion title and top dog in 2009.

Each show that a dog is entered into is judged by two separate judges comparing that dog against the AKC breed standard.  Each judge fills in a score card grading the dog, then the score cards are averaged to arrive at the final score.  Top score of 50 points can be awarded in each of the four areas with the highest possible total score being 200.

PROMINENT DOG

Three Prominent Dog scores (with a total of six judges scoring each particular dog) are needed to build each level of champion.  Three qualifying scores at three separate shows (three legs) are needed to advance to the next level.

CHAMPION

A Champion title is achieved by receiving a minimum score of 189 points, awarded in three separate shows (three legs).  The first qualifying score can be obtained when a puppy is between 6 - 12 months of age.  Dogs must be 12 months or older to continue acquiring points towards their champion title.

PROMINENT CHAMPION

A Prominent Champion title is achieved by receiving a minimum score of 194 points, awarded in three separate shows (three legs), acquired after their champion title has been received.

PAR EXCELLENCE CHAMPION

A Par Excellence Champion title is achieved by receiving a perfect score of 100 points, awarded in three separate shows (three legs), acquired after their Champion and Prominent Champion titles have been received.

PARADE OF CHAMPIONS

An "Invitational" for champions only.  First, second and third place awards are given per breed group.  First place winners of each group then compete for top dog.  This is the only show throughout the entire year that cash prizes are awarded, in addition to ribbons and trophies.
