In this
lesson,
we will
build on
the
sit/stay
to teach
your
puppy
the sit
and
greet
when a
family
member
or
visitor
greets
your
puppy.
Remember
that In
a
domestic
situation
or in
the
wild,
when
dogs or
pack
members
greet
each
other,
the
natural
reaction
for them
is to
joyfully
jump up
on each
other to
say
"hello".
Your
goal
with
this
lesson
will be
to train
your
puppy to
sit and
stay
when
someone
is
greeting
him.
Start
off by
having
your
puppy
sit and
stay
with a
Pupperoni
Treat,
having
the
leash in
hand and
barely
taut.
While
your
puppy is
nibbling
on the
end of
the
treat,
have a
family
member
or
friend
approach
and
attempt
to pet
your
puppy.
If he
jumps
up, have
your
assistant
stand up
straight.
Immediately
drop
your
hand
down and
behind
you, say
"ah ah", then
bring
your
hand
back up
for the
"sit"
signal
and have
your
puppy
sit.
Let your
puppy
nibble
the
treat
and have
your
assistant
try
again to
pet your
puppy.
After a
few
tries,
he will
realize
that by
staying
in the
sit
position,
the
treat
will be
offered.
Once
your
family
member
or
visitor
is
finished
greeting
your
puppy,
release
with an
"o.k.",
tell him
what a
good boy
he was
and
continue
with
your
visit. |
