9/03/10 - Early Morning Too cute! I just had to let you know how Peebles was doing. While helping Ginger deliver her surprise litter (the ultrasound showed no puppies, but she is having some!) I happened to look over to see how she and the puppies were doing. I saw Peebles sitting up, it was obvious she wanted to lay down but a puppy was in the way. To my surprise, she picked the puppy up, moved it forward into the pile of puppies and then proceeded to lay down like that was just the normal way of things! What a great mom, especially since this is her first litter.
Today the puppies will have their dew-claws removed and start the Early Neurological Stimulation Program (look on my Socialization Page for a description of that). Today is going to be one busy day! JW
9/01/10 - Afternoon
Above are new pictures added of Peebles all cleaned up with her nine puppies, they are just adorable! She has three beautiful girls and six handsome boys. This first week is critical, and I will be watching them very closely to monitor how they are doing. My goal is to always have zero losses, so far they are doing great! I will contact everyone on the list next week to confirm gender choices and receive the funds for the final deposit. Enjoy looking! JW
9/01/10 - Morning
Well, it was a fairly quiet first night with mom and pups. I had to get up several times to move a crying puppy out from behind Peebles (they get stuck back there!) but other than that they did great! Peebles has had her bath, shot of oxytocin to expel afterbirth, antibiotic to keep infection away and has started her Citracal Calcium supplement to keep her calcium levels where they need to be. Peebles just ate about half a bowl of softened dry/canned food with milk replacer mixed in, which is a good sign that she is doing well. I have to teach school but will add pics of mom a babies this afternoon. It looks like there are six boys and three girls, I will count again this afternoon to make sure. Enjoy your day! JW
8/31/10 - Evening
As of 9:27 p.m. Missouri time, Peebles has nine babies. I will let everyone know gender in the morning, everyone is doing fine! JW
8/31/10 - Afternoon
Seven beautiful babies so far, it looks like she is still in labor, we will know by this evening how many Peebles has had. It's a pretty messy business so when she is done, I will be giving her a bath, cleaning their baby pool and changing their blanket. This litter is Peebles' first so I wasn't quite sure what she would produce, but it looks like Grandma Ginger (Peebles' mom)and Harrison's grandparents (both red) have gotten into the act and passed on their dark golden/red genes. Some of these puppies are apricot and some fairly dark golden. We will know color a bit better when they dry off and mature a bit. I will update this late this evening, enjoy looking! (by the way mom is doing great and puppies are all content and nursing!) JW
8/31/10 - Morning
Peebles is giving birth! She just delivered her first little boy. It's amazing how much smaller the Mini pups are compared to the Standards. I have taken pics and will take some more and add them when I get a chance. JW
8/30/10
Just a few more days and Peebles will be whelping her puppies! Above is a slideshow showing her about four days before birth. New pictures will be added of Peebles having her puppies and then about every week so that you can watch the puppies as they grow. Peebles is now settled in our puppy room, attached to our house. She has a 5X12 run with a baby pool and soft blankets to lay on, where her puppies will be living for about the first 2-3 weeks. Everything needed for the birth is ready at hand and I'm now taking her temperature every day. When her body temperature drops at least one degree, she will have her puppies within 10 - 12 hours. It won't be long now! JW |
