Three Weeks Old

Just as a heads up, our daughter, Meagan, is getting married on Saturday, June 9.  I have scheduled the shipping and delivery times so that we will have the weekend for the wedding and our out of town company through the following week.

Microchips, leashes, collars and toys have been ordered and registrations have been sent for.  JW

It's hard to believe that Lady's puppies are already three weeks old!  They are now eating softened Purina One Adult Lamb And Rice food three times a day.  Go to our "Feeding Puppies" page to see why we feed our puppies an adult formula food.

While eating, the puppies will be listening to their puppy racket recording.  By listening to strange or frightening noises while enjoying their food, this conditions them to associate the different sounds with something pleasant.

To a puppy, each new noise experience can be frightening.  With our "Puppy Racket" recording, we help desensitize each puppy to strange sounds and prepare them to face the noisy world without fear.  The recording contains dozens of assorted, high fidelity noises such as:  thunder, wind storm, alarm clock, vacuum cleaner, lawnmower, power saw, buzzers, bells, children playing, dogs barking and howling, thumps, bumps, and dozens more to help your new puppy transition to their new home a little bit easier.

Two Weeks Old

Lady's puppies are two weeks old now and they are growing so fast!  Their eyes are opening now, too cute!  Weights are from 3.1 - 3.8 lbs.,  just right for their age.

From days 3-16, we have been taking the puppies through their Early Neurological Stimulation program http://okefeildacres.com/okefeild-acres-puppy-socialization.htm and they have been responding very well.  Each day finds them a little bit more calm and now that they can see, they are starting to look at us!

This week we will be focusing on holding the puppies and petting them to let them know that it's a good thing to receive attention.

 One Week Old

Sorry for the delay in my weekly update, I had to have emergency gallbladder removal.  Things are slow but I am recovering well and am feeling more like myself again.  A big thanks to my husband, Ron, for taking care of everything during this time!

Lady's babies are really growing big and are doing excellent.  We will be adding a two week video on Thursday, 4/26.  JW

 Newborn

4/23/12

Lady's puppies had a quiet first night, which means that they are getting enough to eat and are warm enough.  Their birth pictures have been added, as you can see, Weimaraner puppies are born with stripes which fade within the first week or so.  Monday the pups will be having their dew-claws removed and their tails docked.

Lady has been bathed and settled on clean blankets, given antibiotics to ward off infection, Citrical calcium to keep her calcium levels where they need to be and Oxytocin to help expel any retained afterbirth. 

Next week I will contact everyone on the reserve list to let you know how the pups are doing and ask for the final deposit.  Enjoy looking at the pictures and have a great weekend!  JW

Lady's temperature has dropped, which means that she is probably going into labor.  She is acting somewhat uncomfortable and isn't too interested in eating like she normally is, all signs that pups are going to make their appearance soon.  As soon as she starts delivering, I will post the news in the nursery then will be with her to help her out.  Pictures and gender/color will be posted when she is all finished.   Pray for her safe delivery!  JW

Above is Lady's growth slideshow where we will be adding weekly pictures of her puppies as they grow.  This week's pictures show Lady with about ten more days to go before whelping.  She has been moved into our puppy house where there is a private area for her babies to be born.   Her baby pool with blankets and a heat lamp are in place and birthing supplies and towels are on hand for the big event.  Keep your eye on the nursery as I add updates about when it looks like she is going into labor.  According to our calculations, she should be due right around 4/10.  Keep Lady in your prayers for a safe delivery!  JW

Lady is out of our retired Weimaraner dam, Champion "Okefeild Acre's All That Jazz" and  field line Weimaraner sire, Reagan.

Lady's pregnancy is confirmed and she is showing now.  She has been moved to our puppy nursery to get settled in for the upcoming birth and to receive special nutrition in preparation for her new puppies.  We will be adding a growth slideshow about 10 days before the birth so that you can see the puppies in utero.  It won't be long now!  JW

Lady has been bred with Cleveland, with pups due around 4/10 and ready to go around 6/05/12.  This pair's last litter produced outgoing, happy natured puppies with several of them showing strong interest in the wing, blue and gray puppies expected.
