~ Bright, Outgoing, Playful ~
Rufus is a lively little apricot boy who’s full of charm and curiosity. With a playful spark and love for people, he thrives on interaction - whether it’s chasing toys or trotting alongside his person. His bright, social nature makes him a great pick for a family with kids or anyone looking for an engaging companion. Check out little Rufus interacting with Ron in his new video below, he’s doing wonderful for his age!
This handsome boy is learning all the right things:
resting quietly in his crate for up to seven hours
ringing potty bell to go out
uses the litter box and doggie door to keep his living space clean and potty free
comes when called
walks up and down stairs
is mastering impulse control against jumping
walks willingly on leash
We are six weeks old now and our little personalities are starting to develop! Our Teddybear coats are becoming full and we look pretty cute! Our trainers have started taking us outside to play and are also conditioning us to the different moving objects that we will encounter when we go to our new homes. Getting used to shopping carts, wheel chairs, walkers, strollers, canes, etc. prepares us for any direction our training will take once we join our new families.
Enjoy our new play video, aren’t we adorable!
This past week we started beginner crate conditioning with a crate buddy so that we can slowly acclimate to sleeping in our crate. Marisa and Chasedy have also been holding us more, offering gentle cuddling, holding while walking around and inspecting my body/mouth examination, all preparation for handling without fear when we go to our new homes. Our trainers have also started conditioned emotional response exercises such as pulling our ears, hugging around our necks, ruffling our fur, handling and squeezing our paws and clipping our nails while eating Greek yogurt during each manipulation. We are learning to show a positive response, instead of a negative one so that we can handle the bumps and tugs that we might encounter with young children or special needs children/adults with my our new families. Janet thinks we are doing great in preparation for our upcoming temperament test and that our new families will love our sweet natures.
We are now three weeks old and this has been a big week! Our eyes are now fully open and we are beginning to respond to Marisa and Chasedy when they take us through our daily training. A litter box has been added to our nursery room and we are already searching it out to go potty in! We also finished up our Neurological Stimulation exercises and have started the next phase of our training and conditioning. Holding, cuddling and walking around during this development stage helps us to learn to be secure when being carried and handled.
At 21 days our ears began to open and we can now hear. We don’t know much about science but research says that during the first week of hearing puppies have very little startle response to loud noises so Janet makes sure to take advantage of this time to begin conditioning us to accept these noises while we are eating. Doing something pleasant while we hear, startle and recover conditions us to ignore the scary noises that we will encounter in our future life. Daily sound conditioning will continue at each of our meals until we go home to our new family. We are getting used to hearing:
The sound of a running vacuum, force blow dryer and clippers
Slamming doors, gates and dropped objects
Honking horn and running car
Thunder, wind storm,
Lawn mower, power saw, buzzers, bells
Children playing, thumps, babies crying
